Instruction Librarian – Academic Library

About the role

The Instruction Librarian at Georgetown University in Qatar will serve as the primary liaison for assigned academic departments, designing and delivering research and information‑literacy instruction that aligns with curriculum needs. The role also supports collection development, scholarly communication, and cultural engagement across the campus community.

Key responsibilities

• Design and deliver instruction sessions, workshops, and course‑integrated teaching on information literacy, AI literacy, database use and research skills.
• Provide advanced research consultations to faculty, students and staff through in‑person, online and email formats.
• Develop instructional materials and research guides using Springshare products and other content‑management platforms.
• Serve as liaison for assigned subject areas, promoting library services, evaluating resources, and advising on collection development.
• Contribute to cultural and community programs such as speaker series, exhibitions and thematic events.

Required profile

• Master’s degree from an ALA‑accredited program (or international equivalent) in Library and Information Science.
• At least 2 years of professional experience in an academic library, including assessment of instruction and services.
• Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships with faculty, students and staff in an international academic environment.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Springshare platforms (LibGuides, LibCal, etc.).
• Experience using citation‑management tools such as Zotero and EndNote.
• Familiarity with bibliometric databases like Scopus and Web of Science.
• Knowledge of learning‑management systems, particularly Canvas.
• Understanding of AI‑assisted research tools and ethical AI use in higher education.
