Internal Auditor – Contracting Operations

About the role

We are seeking an Internal Auditor to support the Head of Internal Audit in providing independent assurance over internal controls, risk management, and governance across our contracting businesses. The role will focus on project execution, procurement, cost control, subcontractor management, and compliance with policies and contractual obligations.

Key responsibilities

• Plan and execute risk‑based internal audits across project sites and head‑office functions, covering the full project lifecycle, procurement, and subcontractor management.
• Review project budgets versus actual costs, investigate variances, and assess controls over material usage, labour allocation, and equipment utilization.
• Audit procurement processes for policy and delegation‑of‑authority compliance, evaluate vendor selection, tendering, and contract awards.
• Ensure adherence to approved policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements, reviewing exceptions and approvals.
• Conduct site visits to verify physical progress, inventory controls, and safety compliance.
• Prepare concise audit reports with actionable recommendations and track implementation of findings.
• Provide advisory input to improve processes while maintaining audit independence.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Accounting, Finance or a related field.
• Strong understanding of construction/contracting business processes and project costing.
• Experience applying a risk‑based audit approach with attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently, conduct site audits, and communicate findings clearly.
• High level of integrity and professional skepticism.
