Lead Electrical and Instrumentation & Commissioning Engineer

About the role

The Lead Electrical and Instrumentation & Commissioning Engineer will provide technical leadership for the design, development, and delivery of electrical power and control systems on oil & gas projects. You will ensure safety, reliability, and compliance while guiding multidisciplinary teams from concept through hand‑over.

Key responsibilities

• Lead all phases of electrical engineering design, including power distribution, switchgear, transformers, substations, generators, UPS and backup power solutions.
• Develop instrumentation and control architectures, program PLCs, and design SCADA/DCS and motor control centre solutions.
• Create detailed design documentation such as single‑line diagrams, control logic schematics, cable schedules and method statements using CAD tools.
• Manage vendor selection, equipment specifications, performance testing and quality verification for electrical and I&C hardware.
• Coordinate with process, mechanical, civil and control engineers to integrate systems and resolve interface issues.
• Supervise on‑site electrical construction, cable installation, testing and commissioning, including insulation resistance and arc‑flash assessments.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in electrical power systems and instrumentation & control engineering within the oil & gas sector.
• Proven ability to lead engineering teams and manage external design consultants.
• Strong knowledge of relevant codes, standards and functional safety (IEC 61508/61511).

Required skills

• Electrical load calculations, short‑circuit analysis, protective relay coordination, grounding studies, arc‑flash hazard analysis.
• PLC programming, SCADA and DCS configuration, motor control centre design.
• Analog/digital signal conditioning, field instrumentation, data acquisition.
• IEC 61508, IEC 61511 functional safety compliance.
• CAD software for electrical schematics and documentation.
