Learning Assistant

About the role

The Learning Assistant works under the guidance of teachers and senior staff to support primary‑age students in accessing the curriculum. The role involves preparing resources, assisting with classroom activities, and helping pupils with diverse learning needs to achieve their goals.

Key responsibilities

• Establish productive relationships with children, acting as a role model and setting high expectations.
• Support individual and group learning, adapting activities to meet each pupil’s needs.
• Assist teachers in preparing equipment, resources, display boards and learning environments.
• Implement and monitor Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and other agreed learning activities.
• Promote inclusion, independence, and positive behaviour in line with school policy.
• Support the use of IT in learning activities and help students develop digital competence.
• Supervise children during swimming pool sessions, playground duties and snack times.
• Maintain a well‑organised classroom, including tidying resources and ensuring health and safety standards.
• Contribute to the school’s ethos and participate in professional development and performance management processes.

Required profile

• GCSE (or equivalent) grade C or above in English and Mathematics.
• Experience working with primary‑age children.
• Experience developing and preparing teaching resources.
• Some experience supporting pupils with additional learning needs.
