Librarian (Secondary School)

About the role

The school librarian will play a pivotal role in supporting the school’s mission by fostering an environment of active, resource‑based learning and collaboration with teaching staff. This position involves managing both physical and digital collections, leading reading initiatives, and ensuring the library contributes to inquiry‑based education.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and update district policies on material selection, circulation, copyright, privacy and acceptable use.
• Promote the use of modern teaching technology and provide all‑day access to digital information resources for the learning community.
• Lead reading lessons for Key Stage 3 classes, support weaker readers, and supervise KS3 library lessons.
• Manage the accelerated reading program, assess student progress and report results to teachers.
• Coordinate school‑wide guidance and training on effective use of the online catalogue and databases.
• Develop and maintain a diverse collection of print and online resources aligned with inquiry learning.
• Oversee cataloguing, organisation and maintenance of library materials according to standard library practice.
• Administer the Integrated Library System, updating bibliographic and catalogue data.
• Promote library services to staff and students and maintain up‑to‑date library procedures.

• Commitment to staying current with professional library practices, information technologies and educational research.
• Ability to collaborate closely with teaching staff and support school‑wide learning objectives.
• Experience in managing both physical and digital library resources in an educational setting.
