MHPSS Associate (Counsellor)

About the role

Under the supervision of the Head of Office and the Programme Manager (MHPSS), the MHPSS Associate will organise problem‑ and emotion‑based psycho‑education, support groups and individual counselling sessions for vulnerable communities in Qatar.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in organising MHPSS services as individual and group sessions.
• Coordinate interventions with mental‑health specialists (psychologists, psychiatrists, doctors, nurses, social workers) and make referrals when needed.
• Support primary caregivers in providing assistance to families facing mental‑health and behavioural challenges.
• Help develop and implement recovery plans for individuals, couples, families and groups.
• Organise platforms and workshops to disseminate key MHPSS information and advocacy messages.
• Report all services in the Smart Camp SYNC data‑entry system, including follow‑up, new cases and visibility materials for activities at Camp As Sayliyah.
• Arrange capacity‑building activities for IOM staff, CAS focal points, Qatar Red Crescent and community volunteers through trainings and workshops.
• Support continuous monitoring and evaluation of the programme.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Required profile

• University or Bachelor’s degree in counselling psychology or related field with at least three years relevant experience, or high‑school diploma with five years relevant experience.
• Proven experience in a Mental Health Counselling Unit or similar, working with at‑risk community members.
• Experience liaising with governmental, diplomatic authorities and stakeholders, and working in international or non‑governmental organisations.
• Fluency in English (oral and written); working knowledge of Dari/Farsi/Pashto is an advantage.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
• Data entry and database‑management skills (e.g., Smart Camp SYNC).
