Munitions Technician (USAF)

About the role

The Munitions Technician is responsible for receiving, storing, inspecting, testing, transporting and maintaining United States Air Force (USAF) munitions, related handling equipment and supporting resources at the assigned site. The role includes operating the Theater Integrated Combat Munitions System (TICMS) and may involve supervising an Other Country National (OCN) munitions workforce.

Key responsibilities

• Observe and enforce USAF and host‑nation explosives safety, AFOSH and security standards during all operations.
• Conduct munitions work according to quality processes, identify problems and recommend solutions.
• Recondition, repair and replace defective or missing parts of munitions and containers.
• Perform munitions storage actions in compliance with stringent explosives standards.
• Conduct warehouse inventories, resolve discrepancies and support serviceability issues.
• Prepare and configure munitions shipments for air, sea and surface transportation.
• Upload/download trucks with incoming and outgoing munitions shipments and transport them to flightline holding areas.
• Inspect, operate and maintain light vehicles, forklifts, pallet jacks, manual hoists and other handling equipment.
• Operate metal strapping equipment, stencil machines, heat sealers, pneumatic paint guns, air compressors and power tools.
• Provide safety briefings, supervise crew members and perform entry‑controller duties as required.

Required profile

• Basic knowledge of USAF Supply and Technical Order systems or equivalent US service systems.
• Proficiency with personal computers for data entry and reporting.
• Ability to work required hours, including stand‑by duties, in peacetime and combat contingencies.
• Willingness to work in office, maintenance shop, warehouse and outdoor environments for extended periods.

Required skills

• Operation of Theater Integrated Combat Munitions System (TICMS).
• Forklift and pallet jack operation.
• Use of metal strapping equipment, stencil machines, heat sealers, pneumatic paint guns, air compressors and power tools.
• Light vehicle operation and basic maintenance.
• Knowledge of USAF explosives safety standards (AFOSH).
