Principal Mechanical Design Engineer

About the role

Akura Medical is seeking a Principal Mechanical Design Engineer to lead the creation of components for its innovative blood clot removal system. This senior position will involve end‑to‑end mechanical design, from concept through high‑volume manufacturing, within a fast‑growing medical‑device company based in Doha.

Key responsibilities

• Lead design and development of plastic/composite and metallic parts from concept to high‑volume production.
• Drive DFM/DFS, manufacturing, and tooling decisions in partnership with suppliers.
• Manage the full mechanical lifecycle: requirements, concepts, prototyping, detailed design, verification & validation, and production transition.
• Integrate mechanical designs with electronics, firmware, fluid, and user‑interface elements alongside cross‑functional teams.
• Conduct tolerance stack analysis, FEA, material selection, and root‑cause investigations on critical subsystems.
• Generate invention disclosures and prototypes to strengthen the company’s IP portfolio.
• Collaborate with physicians for product demonstrations and testing.
• Document design reviews, manufacturing instructions, test methods, and test reports.

Required profile

• Extensive experience in mechanical design of medical devices, especially high‑volume disposable components.
• Proven track record of leading electromechanical and mechanism design projects for durable medical devices.
• Strong background in vendor management and compliance with medical‑device standards.
• Ability to work on‑site in Doha and lead cross‑functional teams.
