Radiation Protection Officer

About the role

The Radiation Protection Officer will design, implement and maintain a comprehensive radiation protection programme to safeguard employees, the public and the environment. This role ensures safe use of ionising radiation sources for non‑destructive testing (NDT) and acts as the primary liaison with regulatory bodies.

Key responsibilities

• Develop, implement and continuously improve a radiation protection programme.
• Oversee the use of X‑ray and gamma‑ray equipment for NDT inspections.
• Establish and enforce radiation safety policies, procedures and work practices.
• Conduct radiation surveys and monitor levels at job sites and storage areas.
• Ensure compliance with regulations such as OSHA, NRC and IAEA.
• Provide radiation safety training and guidance to NDT technicians and other personnel.
• Maintain detailed records of exposure, equipment calibration and programme activities.
• Investigate and report any incidents or accidents involving ionising radiation.
• Serve as the primary contact for regulatory agencies and auditors.

Required profile

• Certified Radiation Protection Technologist (CRPT) or equivalent certification.
• Thorough knowledge of radiation protection principles, regulations and best practices.
• Strong analytical, problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
• Excellent communication and training skills.
• Ability to work independently and collaborate with cross‑functional teams.
• Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
