Scientific Director – Neurological Disorder Research Center

About the role

The Qatar Biomedical Research Institute (QBRI) at Hamad Bin Khalifa University seeks a Scientific Director to lead its Neurological Disorder Research Center. The role involves strategic planning, research project management, and driving scientific innovation in neurodevelopmental disorders.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement 5‑year and 10‑year master plans for neurological disorder research.
• Lead the preparation and execution of the annual budget and business plan.
• Oversee infrastructure and laboratory facility development within the centre.
• Lead a multidisciplinary team of scientists to create new research methods and solutions.
• Collaborate with internal HBKU entities and external partners to secure resources and funding.
• Ensure compliance with research protocols, safety, and regulatory standards.
• Foster relationships with national and international research institutions.
• Identify, recruit, and motivate scientists to achieve QBRI’s vision.
• Actively participate in basic and applied research aligned with centre objectives.
• Seek and secure external funding to complement university resources.

Required profile

• PhD in Biomedical/Life Sciences or a related field.
• Minimum 15 years of relevant full‑time experience, including at least 5 years in a senior research leadership role.
• Strong knowledge of clinical, medical, and biomedical research focusing on neurodevelopmental disorders.
• Proven track record in managing research centres and familiarity with research tools, procedures, and protocols.
• Strategic thinking with project‑management and budgeting experience.
• Strong leadership, people‑management, and team‑building abilities.
• Ability to thrive in a diverse, multicultural environment.
• Experience in raising funds for research programmes.
• Superior knowledge of biomedical trends, FDA regulations, and international standards for biomedical devices and drug development.
