Senior Consultant – Psychiatry (Arab Region)

About the role

The Senior Consultant – Psychiatry provides the highest level of clinical leadership within the psychiatry department, overseeing patient care, supervising junior doctors, and guiding strategic development of services, including the Young Persons Service.

Key responsibilities

• Organise, monitor and maintain clinical services to ensure optimal patient care and resource utilisation.
• Lead rounds, supervise inpatient treatment and screen outpatients.
• Supervise medical staff, prepare regular activity reports for the department head.
• Participate in committees to upgrade services and develop departmental plans.
• Lead the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of substance use disorders and co‑occurring psychiatric conditions.
• Coordinate on‑call duties, manage drug and equipment supply needs, and approve medical reports.
• Provide guidance to other departments and undertake additional duties as directed by senior leadership.

Required profile

• Extensive clinical competence in psychiatry, particularly in substance use disorder management.
• Proven leadership and management experience overseeing consultants and junior doctors.
• Ability to develop and implement strategic plans for clinical, research, education and training initiatives.
• Strong supervisory skills and experience preparing departmental reports.
