Senior Legal Counsel - Governance, Compliance & Ethics

About the role

BAE Systems Strategic Aerospace Services is looking for a Senior Legal Counsel in Doha to provide expert legal advice across corporate, commercial, investment and M&A matters, ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The role leads corporate governance initiatives, supports compliance programmes, conducts legal due diligence and gives strategic advice on transactions and commercial agreements, covering defence, technology, investment and procurement.

Key responsibilities

• Take part in developing the legal department's strategy and its budget, and monitor their execution
• Create robust contractual terms for defence, security, investment, R&D and other areas, and develop standardised contract templates
• Provide legal guidance to the Legal Director, Executive Committee and Operational Committee
• Oversee legal affairs, review and validate legal documents, agreements and licences, and advise on legislative and regulatory changes
• Manage relationships with external legal counsel, investigate claims and disputes, and maintain a legal database and records system
• Monitor legal cases and give timely updates, recommendations and risk assessments
• Support local and international procurement and uphold confidentiality

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Law
• Masters degree in Law, Defense and Security and/or Business Administration with a thesis
• At least 10 years of experience in a commercial/contracts capacity in defence, finance or investment

Required skills

• Expertise in defence, security, procurement, sales, M&A and R&D
• Knowledge of intellectual property law and corporate governance principles
• Strong understanding of financial instruments and investment strategies
• Mastery of transactional activities
