Student Support Teacher (SEN - Elementary School)

About the role

GEMS American Academy in Qatar is looking for a hard-working and talented individual to join its SEN (Special Educational Needs) Elementary School team, joining on 1 August 2026. The role covers teaching students according to their individual needs, supporting diverse learners such as late-entering students, ESL learners, those with low academic ability and gifted and talented students, and working closely with colleagues, parents and the wider school community.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver the required curriculum with accurate, up-to-date knowledge of subject matter, and plan and deliver quality lessons that cater to different learning styles
• Maintain records of curriculum and year plans, attendance, teaching resources and assessment plans, and show evidence of planning on request
• Teach students according to their individual needs and set and mark work, assessing and reporting on progress and attainment
• Use media and technology in the classroom and communicate with external parties such as Ministry of Education officials
• Promote student well-being, guide students on educational matters and monitor safe, appropriate behaviour, encouraging self-discipline
• Take part in appraisal, performance management and CPD, and help prepare teaching materials, resources and pastoral arrangements
• Lead or take part in co-curricular and extra-curricular programmes, assist in organising school events, and attend staff meetings and committees
• Meet parents regularly about student progress while respecting confidentiality, and go beyond the normal work day when needed

Required profile

• B.Ed or Bachelor's degree in a relevant field with a PGCE/PGDE or equivalent Level 5 teaching qualification (e.g. SPED, EAL, ELL)
• At least 2 years of teaching experience in the relevant subject area or age group
• Strong commitment to teaching and learning, excellent communication skills and cultural awareness

Required skills

• Knowledge of ICT in schools to support teaching and learning
• Solid subject knowledge in the relevant area
