Aviation Safety Specialist – Airport Operations

About the role

Hamad International Airport is looking for a highly skilled and organized Aviation Safety Specialist to support its safety management system and ensure compliance with regulatory standards. The role involves coordinating safety programs, liaising with airport departments, and managing risk documentation.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Line Manager in maintaining and reviewing operational programs related to aviation safety and investigations, ensuring alignment with SMS requirements.
• Liaise with aerodrome departments and airport stakeholders to address safety requirements and coordinate efforts across teams.
• Review and verify that aviation safety procedures comply with QCAR regulations and meet regulatory standards.
• Develop and manage the Hazard Log and Risk Register, supporting MATAR documentation and tracking potential hazards.
• Define and document threat/hazard identification and risk management processes in line with the MATAR Safety Management System manual.
• Prepare risk assessments and safety cases, and assist in aeronautical studies to handle non‑compliance situations.
• Coordinate and support aerodrome oversight inspections conducted by the QCAA Aerodrome Standards Directorate.
• Assist in aerodrome certification processes by ensuring compliance requirements are met and documentation is up to date.

Required profile

• High School, vocational or diploma qualification with at least 5 years of relevant experience, or a Bachelor’s degree with at least 4 years of relevant experience.
• Completion of Safety Management Systems (SMS) training from ICAO or ACI.
• Completion of ICAO Annex 14 training.
• Completion of Apron Management training from ICAO or ACI.
• Project Management training from a recognized institution.
• Proven technical writing experience in preparing manuals, SOPs and other safety documentation.
• Strong command of written and spoken English.
• Ability to translate complex aviation safety policies into clear, concise procedures.
