Department Manager – Retail

About the role

The Department Manager leads the day‑to‑day operations of a specific department within a large‑format retail store. Reporting to the Store Manager, you will be responsible for driving sales, maintaining key performance indicators and ensuring an excellent customer experience.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of department performance, including sales, conversion rates, customer satisfaction and loss prevention.
• Track and analyse KPI data, produce regular reports and implement process improvements.
• Maintain visual merchandising standards in collaboration with the visual team, adapting displays for seasons, promotions and new product launches.
• Manage inventory levels, conduct stock audits and coordinate replenishment to minimise stock loss and overstock.
• Ensure compliance with security and safety protocols, creating a safe environment for staff and shoppers.
• Handle operational tasks such as rostering, scheduling and addressing customer inquiries or grievances.
• Lead, mentor and develop department staff through coaching, training and performance feedback.
• Collaborate with other department managers and the Store Manager to align with overall store objectives.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing a retail department or similar operation.
• Strong analytical mindset with the ability to interpret sales and KPI data.
• Excellent leadership and communication skills.
• Customer‑focused attitude with a commitment to high service standards.
• Ability to work in a fast‑paced, large‑format store environment.
