Fabrication Estimation Engineer

About the role

The Fabrication Estimation Engineer will develop cost estimates for multimillion‑dollar oil and gas projects, supporting the bidding process and ensuring accurate financial planning.

Key responsibilities

• Review tender packages, specifications and schedules to fully understand scope of work.
• Clarify contract pricing, unit rates and lump‑sum breakdowns.
• Collaborate with operations, production, shop engineers, yard superintendents, planning, welding, QA/QC, procurement and construction support teams.
• Identify required equipment, prepare RFQs and evaluate subcontractor quotes.
• Perform quantity take‑offs, calculate workforce, rental equipment and material costs.
• Prepare detailed estimates using standard rates, historical data or first‑principles calculations.
• Compile and present overall estimates, obtain management approval and maintain documentation of assumptions and calculations.
• Track actual performance against estimates, analyse variances and update benchmarking data.
• Lead initiatives to improve estimation processes and benchmarks.

Required profile

• Diploma or Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Structural Engineering or a related field.
• Minimum 5 years experience in offshore construction involving jackets, topsides or bridges.
• Strong understanding of construction methods, components and processes.
• Excellent written and spoken communication skills.

Required skills

• Interpretation of engineering drawings.
• Cost estimation and quantity take‑off techniques.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and PDF handling.
