Protection Engineer – Site Supervision

About the role

The Protection Engineer – Site Supervision will lead the testing, commissioning and maintenance of protection systems across substations, power plants and transmission networks. You will ensure that protection schemes operate reliably, meet client specifications and comply with international standards.

Key responsibilities

• Review and approve contractors' design drawings and inspection & testing procedures.
• Validate relay setting calculations for existing and new protection devices.
• Perform adequacy checks for current and voltage transformer calculations.
• Witness testing and commissioning of all protection equipment, ensuring correct implementation of protection and control philosophy.
• Assist clients with advanced protection schemes such as cable differential, distance, transformer differential, bus‑bar differential and reactor differential.
• Configure protection and control signals for substation SCADA (IEC 61850) and National Control Centre (IEC 104).
• Witness testing of Automatic Voltage Regulator (AVR) schemes for transformers and reactors.
• Troubleshoot protection and control faults in substations and provide corrective actions.
• Review contractor method statements to guarantee safe and reliable stability testing of cables, transformers, reactors and busbars.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Power Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 6 years of experience in protection and control engineering for substations, transmission/distribution or power plants.
• Hands‑on experience with protection relays from major OEMs.
• Strong knowledge of IEC, IEEE and local utility standards.

Required skills

• Siemens, ABB, GE, Schneider and SEL protection relays.
• Relay coordination, fault analysis and protection schemes (distance, differential, over‑current).
• Testing tools: Omicron, Doble and Megger equipment.
• SCADA integration using IEC 61850 and IEC 104 protocols.
• Power system protection design and verification.
• Technical troubleshooting of protection and control systems.
