Senior Materials Engineer

About the role

The Senior Materials Engineer will lead the quality, testing and approval of construction materials for civil engineering projects. The role ensures that all materials comply with project specifications, industry standards and contractual requirements while supporting construction and QA/QC teams to deliver durable outcomes.

Key responsibilities

• Review, evaluate and approve construction material submittals, mix designs and specifications.
• Supervise laboratory and field testing of soil, aggregates, concrete, asphalt, bitumen and related materials.
• Ensure compliance with project drawings, specifications and standards such as ASTM, BS, IRC, MORTH and AASHTO.
• Monitor and implement material QA/QC processes, analyse test results and recommend corrective actions.
• Provide technical guidance to site teams on material performance and issues.
• Oversee calibration, operation and maintenance of laboratory and testing equipment.
• Prepare and review material approval logs, test reports and quality documentation.
• Coordinate material matters with clients, consultants, QA/QC and construction teams.
• Supervise and mentor material engineers, inspectors and laboratory personnel.
• Ensure health, safety and environmental compliance for all material testing activities.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Materials Engineering or a related discipline.
• UPDA Grade A Registration.
• Minimum 15 years of experience in construction material engineering.
• Strong knowledge of concrete technology, asphalt, soil mechanics and pavement materials.
• Proven experience in field and laboratory material testing and inspections.
• Thorough understanding of QA/QC systems and construction material standards.
• Ability to interpret specifications, drawings, codes and test results.
• Experience on infrastructure, road/highway or large civil construction projects is preferred.
• Excellent analytical, reporting and documentation skills.
• Leadership experience managing teams and site‑based activities.
