Academic Advisor for Journalism and Communication Programs

About the role

The Academic Advisor at Northwestern University in Qatar will guide and support undergraduate students in the journalism and communication programs, ensuring they meet degree requirements and succeed academically.

Key responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive undergraduate advising on majors, minors, academic policies, and support resources.
• Conduct orientation sessions, monitor progress to graduation, and maintain accurate advising records.
• Assist with course registration, major/minor declarations, and status changes such as transfers or study abroad.
• Collaborate with program directors and Student Affairs to support academic progress and career planning.
• Organize student success workshops and process accommodation requests.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in media, journalism, communication, or related field from an accredited U.S. or American‑style university.
• 1‑3 years of academic advising experience in an American or American‑style institution.
• Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty, and administrators.
• Capacity to meet strict timelines in a fast‑paced environment.
