Applications Engineer

About the role

The Applications Engineer will support and continuously improve the application portfolio used by NOC Subsurface business lines, acting as a bridge between business users, DBS teams and vendors. The role involves designing digital tools, automations and AI‑enabled solutions on approved NOC platforms.

Key responsibilities

• Provide day‑to‑day functional and technical support for subsurface applications across Windows and Linux environments, including configuration, upgrades and retirement.
• Design, prototype, develop, test and maintain fit‑for‑purpose applications, integrations and workflow automations, applying secure software‑development practices, CI/CD pipelines and monitoring.
• Collaborate with architecture, cloud, data, cybersecurity and other DBS teams to deliver integrated solutions and ensure compliance with NOC standards.
• Monitor application availability, performance and licence consumption, and implement service improvements.

Required profile

• Minimum 6 years of IT experience, including implementation, administration or support of business‑critical applications.
• Experience supporting subsurface‑specific software in at least one domain such as reservoir engineering, geoscience, drilling or petroleum data management.
• Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with the ability to learn unfamiliar technical and subsurface domains quickly.

Required skills

• Proficiency in Python and the Django framework.
• Experience with APIs, SQL, scripting, source control (Git/GitHub) and automated testing.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms, especially Microsoft Azure, and CI/CD pipelines deploying to Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS).
• Familiarity with AI‑enabled development platforms, machine‑learning services, generative AI, prompt engineering and intelligent automation.
