Department Manager – Retail Store

About the role

The Department Manager leads the day‑to‑day operations of a dedicated department within a large‑format retail store. Reporting to the Store Manager, you will ensure the department meets sales targets, delivers excellent customer service and operates efficiently.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee all aspects of department performance, including sales, conversion rates, customer satisfaction and loss prevention.
• Track and analyse key performance indicators, prepare regular reports and implement process improvements.
• Maintain visual merchandising standards and adapt displays for seasonal promotions and new product launches.
• Manage inventory levels, conduct stock audits and coordinate replenishment to minimise stock loss and overstock.
• Ensure compliance with security and safety procedures, creating a safe environment for staff and shoppers.
• Plan staff rosters, schedule work and address customer inquiries or grievances.
• Lead, coach and develop the department team through regular training and performance feedback.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing a department in a large‑format or big‑box retail environment.
• Demonstrated ability to meet or exceed sales and KPI targets.
• Strong leadership and people‑development skills.
• Excellent organisational and analytical abilities.
