Junior Researcher, Bioinformatics/Data Analysis

About the role

Weill Cornell Medicine-Qatar is hiring a Junior Researcher in Bioinformatics/Data Analysis for its Research Division in Doha, Qatar. The position is full time, runs Sunday to Thursday, and involves preparing data, carrying out basic analysis and scripting tasks under close supervision, supporting documentation, learning bioinformatics tools and collaborating with the team to advance research objectives.

Key responsibilities

• Assist in retrieving, cleaning and preparing datasets for analysis, ensuring their accuracy and readiness for further processing.
• Perform basic statistical analyses and help generate simple visual outputs such as charts and tables.
• Support the development, execution and troubleshooting of scripts under the guidance of senior team members.
• Document workflows, analysis steps and coding processes, and help maintain organized, up-to-date data records.
• Apply established bioinformatics tools and collaborate with domain experts on data analysis and visualization under supervision.
• Take part in team meetings and work collaboratively toward shared research goals.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in bioinformatics, computer science, evolutionary biology, genetics, computational biology or a related discipline, with up to 3 years of relevant experience.
• Good problem-solving skills, eagerness to learn and ability to follow guidelines.
• Attention to detail, strong organizational skills and the ability to multi-task, working independently and as part of a team.

Required skills

• Basic knowledge of R or Python, and basic debugging and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work in common computing environments including Linux, Windows and Macintosh.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
