Mechanical Trade Lead

About the role

The Mechanical Trade Lead is an experienced Mechanical Technician and Supervisor reporting to the Forward Deputy Maintenance Manager. The role includes day‑to‑day management of mechanical trade manpower and equipment, ensuring safe and serviceable aircraft for the flying programme.

Key responsibilities

• Manage forward maintenance mechanical manpower, shift lists and equipment resources in line with policy and flying programme requirements.
• Ensure all mechanical trade personnel are trained, authorised and maintain currency, including mandatory training such as HF and CoC.
• Monitor and report mechanical standards, facilities, approved data usage and oversee regular quality and safety checks.
• Act as the primary contact for internal and external agencies, deputise for the FDMM and Rectification Controllers when absent.

Required profile

• Minimum City & Guilds 2675/2661 in Aeronautical Engineering or equivalent qualification.
• At least 2 years of supervisory experience in a mechanical/maintenance environment.
• Completion of an Engineering Apprenticeship or military equivalent.
• Valid driving licence and IT literacy.

Required skills

• Asset Manager authorisation.
• Capability to coordinate aircraft and MWOs, download/upload PMDS and resolve PMDS arisings.
• Independent inspection authority and ability to perform tow Typhoon operations.
• Assessor for general and trade‑specific authorisations.
• Completion of Typhoon Mechanical Trade ‘Q’ Course or equivalent.
• Knowledge of Human Factors, E&PW, and ITAR awareness courses.
