Ocean Freight Specialist

About the role

The Ocean Freight Specialist will support DHL Global Forwarding’s ocean freight operations in Doha, Qatar. You will manage end‑to‑end shipment activities, ensure regulatory compliance, and act as the primary customer contact for ocean freight shipments.

Key responsibilities

• Administer shipment‑level activities, including booking receipt, documentation, and coordination of local and international transport.
• Serve as the first point of contact for customers, handling shipment information, exceptions, complaints, and claims.
• Manage routing and assignment to meet service commitments while maximizing profitability and preparing accurate invoices.
• Execute regulatory compliance procedures for commodities and destinations.
• Maintain relationships with existing clients, identify upsell opportunities, and conduct customer visits.
• Identify and resolve performance issues with suppliers and propose improvement solutions.
• Provide guidance and training to less experienced team members.
• Create and confirm transport orders, optimise bookings, and handle import/export documentation.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional qualification.
• Relevant vocational, specialised, or technical certifications are a plus.
• Experience in ocean freight, logistics, or related transportation functions.
• Strong understanding of customs documentation and regulatory compliance.

Required skills

• Proficiency with Transportation Management Systems (TMS).
• Knowledge of rate and capacity procurement processes.
• Ability to prepare and control import/export documentation.
