Chief Officer – Senior Deck Officer

About the role

The Chief Officer supports the Master in ensuring safe and efficient vessel operations. This senior deck position combines watch‑keeping, emergency response, and oversight of safety, environmental, and cargo procedures on board.

Key responsibilities

• Assist the Master during emergencies and in implementing company policies and the Safety Management System.
• Act as Senior Dynamic Positioning (DP) Operator and watch keeper on conventional watches.
• Ensure compliance with statutory requirements for vessel stability, trim, ballast water management, and waste disposal.
• Oversee maintenance of lifesaving, fire‑fighting appliances, deck machinery, lifting equipment, and cargo securing.
• Coordinate Permit‑to‑Work processes and manage fresh‑water supplies while at sea.
• Lead the deck department, organise watch‑keeping arrangements in port, and assess deck crew performance.
• Serve as a member of the emergency team and fulfil HSSE duties, including risk assessments and toolbox talks.

Required profile

• Extensive experience as a deck officer with proven leadership capabilities.
• Strong knowledge of maritime safety, environmental regulations, and ballast water management.
• Ability to act decisively in emergency situations and support the Master.
• Excellent organisational skills for crew assessment and cargo operations.
