Project Associate (Cultural Mediator)

About the role

The Project Associate (Cultural Mediator) will support IOM's Assistance Programme in Qatar by facilitating communication and cultural mediation between staff and Afghan evacuees.

Key responsibilities

• Provide interpretation in Dari and/or Pashto and English for IOM staff and Afghan evacuees.
• Accompany guests to appointments and meetings, offering interpretation/translation support.
• Perform informal written translations between English and Dari/Pashto under tight deadlines.
• Maintain confidentiality of all paperwork and adhere to data protection standards.
• Organise and deliver cultural awareness sessions to strengthen intercultural understanding.
• Assist with reporting using the SMART CAMP SYNC App and support the Complaint and Feedback Mechanism team as needed.

Required profile

• High school diploma with five years relevant experience or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field with three years experience.
• Experience working with at‑risk communities, migration assistance, and in fast‑paced multicultural settings.
• Fluency in English and Dari or Pashto (oral and written).
• Availability to work beyond normal hours, including day/evening/night shifts.

Required skills

• Excellent translation and interpretation skills between English and Dari/Pashto.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office software packages.
