Senior Medical Underwriter

About the role

Sharq Insurance is seeking a highly motivated Senior Medical Underwriter to join its underwriting team. In this senior position you will evaluate medical risks, underwrite new and renewal business, and support product profitability while collaborating with brokers, TPAs, reinsurers and internal stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Underwrite new business, renewals, endorsements and policy amendments within authority limits.
• Assess medical insurance proposals, analyse risk exposures and recommend competitive pricing.
• Prepare and issue quotations, policies, endorsements and renewal documentation.
• Verify premium calculations and underwriting data in systems such as Premia, NextCare and GlobeMed.
• Work closely with marketing, brokers, TPAs, healthcare providers, clients and reinsurers to ensure efficient policy administration.
• Support treaty reinsurance placements and account validations.
• Conduct compliance, due‑diligence and risk‑assessment activities in line with regulatory requirements.
• Monitor policy renewals to achieve premium targets and retain business.
• Prepare underwriting reports, portfolio analysis and management information.
• Track market trends and competitor products to recommend improvements.
• Contribute to process‑improvement initiatives and maintain high standards of professionalism and governance.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Insurance, Mathematics, Economics, Accounting or related field.
• 6–10 years of insurance experience, with substantial medical or health insurance underwriting exposure.
• Strong understanding of underwriting principles, medical insurance products and risk assessment.
• Knowledge of insurance regulations, governance and compliance requirements.
• Professional qualifications such as FIII, ACII or equivalent are an advantage.
