Specialist – Child Life Services II

About the role

The Specialist – Child Life Services II provides therapeutic, educational, and recreational interventions to pediatric patients and their families. Working under minimal supervision, the role blends clinical assessment with developmentally appropriate play to support emotional well‑being during hospitalization.

Key responsibilities

• Lead committees and workgroups, facilitating quality‑improvement projects and departmental initiatives.
• Mentor new employees, students, and junior staff, creating formal and informal learning opportunities.
• Develop, coordinate, and implement child life interventions, including preparation, education, and procedural support.
• Maintain safe, developmentally responsive play environments and ensure compliance with infection‑control and MoPH standards.
• Participate in interdisciplinary care conferences, psychosocial rounds, and nursing reports to integrate child life goals.
• Document clinical notes accurately and recommend referrals when needs exceed the scope of practice.

Required profile

• Demonstrated experience in child life services, therapeutic play, and family‑centered care.
• Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) and AED as required by MoPH and Sidra Medicine.
• Ability to assess psychosocial needs, develop care plans, and evaluate outcomes using evidence‑based practice.
• Strong communication skills to interact with children, families, and multidisciplinary teams.
