Vehicle Mechanic (Military & Commercial Vehicles)

About the role

The Vehicle Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, repairing, maintaining and servicing military and commercial vehicles in accordance with USAF requirements and Amentum quality standards. The role involves working in a shop or warehouse environment and may require outdoor work for extended periods.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct Limited Technical Inspections (LTI) to diagnose malfunctions, determine repair scope, parts needed and cost.
• Repair or replace components across gasoline and diesel engines, manual and automatic transmissions, steering, braking, clutch, torque converters, axle hubs, bearings, fuel, air, cooling, suspension, body work and hydraulic systems.
• Troubleshoot, calibrate and time electrical systems, pumps, meters, injectors, distributors and air‑conditioning units using diagrams, manuals and specialized test equipment.
• Perform preventative maintenance such as oil, filter, coolant, belt and lubricant changes as directed.
• Complete and record maintenance forms, work orders, parts requests and log hours, speedometer readings and parts used.
• Research parts using commercial manuals, technical orders and parts catalogs.
• Operate material‑handling equipment and light to heavy military‑type vehicles while adhering to safety, hazardous‑material and quality standards.

Required profile

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum three years of experience as a vehicle mechanic.
• Valid driver’s licence in home country and ability to obtain host‑nation licence.
• Intermediate proficiency in English (read, write, speak).
• Physical ability to lift/push/pull at least 50 lb and work in noisy, outdoor environments.
• Willingness to travel domestically and internationally.
