Electrical Technician (Commissioning)

About the role

We are looking for an Electrical Technician to support commissioning activities for medium- and low-voltage electrical systems at our plant in Doha. The role involves testing, start-up and hand-over of switchgear, transformers, drives and related equipment.

Key responsibilities

• Perform pre-commissioning and commissioning of MV/LV switchgears, transformers, MCCs, VFDs, UPS, DC systems, generators and control panels.
• Carry out loop checking, continuity, insulation resistance and functional testing of electrical equipment.
• Support energisation, start-up and performance testing of plant systems and record results.
• Verify installations against drawings, specifications and standards; conduct cable continuity, megger, grounding and protection relay tests.
• Troubleshoot and rectify electrical faults during commissioning and assist maintenance activities.
• Coordinate with instrumentation, mechanical and process teams for integrated testing.
• Prepare commissioning records, test reports, daily progress reports and as-built documentation.
• Ensure compliance with HSE policies, LOTO procedures and participate in safety talks.

Required profile

• Diploma or technical certification in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Technology or a related field.
• 3-5 years of experience in electrical installation, testing and commissioning, preferably in SWRO desalination, water treatment, power or industrial process plants.
• Familiarity with MV/LV systems and industrial automation environments.
• Knowledge of LOTO and AEP/SAEP safety procedures.

Required skills

• Electrical commissioning procedures for MV/LV systems.
• Use of insulation resistance tester, CPC100, CIBANO Kit, Hypot Kit, CT analyzer and CMC Kit.
• Experience with transformers, switchgear, MCCs, distribution panels, VFDs, soft starters and UPS.
• Loop checking, continuity testing, megger testing, grounding and protection relay testing.
