Industrial Hygiene Technician

About the role

The Industrial Hygiene Technician will operate and manage the IH laboratory and equipment, supporting the Industrial Hygiene Specialist in implementing safety programs and providing day‑to‑day hygiene support for plant personnel and contractors.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect, test and evaluate workplace environments, equipment and practices to ensure compliance with safety standards and regulations.
• Conduct and report industrial hygiene surveys such as heat stress, noise, chemical exposure, local exhaust ventilation, fume hood performance, lighting, radiation and ergonomic studies.
• Maintain all IH equipment, perform routine calibration, manage respirator fit‑testing programs and keep related records.
• Participate in compliance audits, approve new chemicals, act as Assistant Radiation Protection Officer and issue radiation clearance certificates.
• Lead safety program implementation and audits, including PPE assessments, contractor safety meetings, permit‑to‑work, job safety analyses, risk assessments and confined‑space permits.
• Manage toxic‑material records, execute the yearly IH sampling plan and support Plant Management of Change (MOC) activities.
• Collect, prepare and dispatch samples of potentially toxic materials for external analysis, ensuring accurate exposure measurement.
• Liaise with regulatory bodies such as the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and maintain radiation device inventories.

Required profile

• Experience in industrial hygiene or occupational health and safety within an industrial setting.
• Familiarity with relevant regulations, standards and audit procedures.
• Ability to operate specialized measurement equipment and interpret results.
• Strong organizational skills for equipment maintenance, record‑keeping and sampling logistics.
• Effective communication for liaising with regulators, contractors and internal teams.
