Open Rank Faculty – Evidenced Based Storytelling & Writing

About the role

Northwestern University in Qatar is seeking a full‑time open‑rank faculty member in Evidenced Based Storytelling and Writing for its Liberal Arts Program. The appointment will support undergraduate and future graduate education, research, and program development focused on Writing Studies in the Global South.

Key responsibilities

• Teach two courses per semester, primarily the First‑Year Writing seminar and elective courses aligned with your research expertise.
• Develop and contribute to interdisciplinary minors such as AI and Media Studies, Media and Politics, Strategic Communication, Film and Design, Middle East Studies, and Africana Studies.
• Maintain an active research agenda in writing studies, rhetoric and composition, second‑language writing, or creative writing with a comparative or transnational perspective.
• Engage with global communities, mentor students, and participate in institutional service and shared governance.
• Collaborate with NU‑Q’s Institute for Advanced Study of the Global South, Artificial Intelligence and Media Lab, and Media Majlis Museum.

Required profile

• PhD in rhetoric and composition, writing studies, creative writing, or a closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated research record appropriate to the rank, or a promising trajectory for recent PhDs.
• Experience working with communities in Africa, the Arab world, or South Asia and a commitment to diverse perspectives.
• Strong commitment to teaching excellence, student mentorship, and institutional service.
• Linguistic competence in English and, preferably, Arabic or another regional language.
