Open Rank Faculty Position in Global Media Industries

About the role

Northwestern University in Qatar is seeking a full‑time open‑rank faculty member in Global Media Industries for its Communication program, with possible joint appointment in Journalism. The successful candidate will join a vibrant, globally‑embedded campus in Doha and contribute to undergraduate and future graduate education.

Key responsibilities

• Teach two courses per semester, including core, elective, and interdisciplinary offerings such as “Ways of Knowing”, Doha Seminar, or graduate seminars.
• Develop and deliver new curricula aligned with interdisciplinary minors (e.g., Africana Studies, AI and Media Studies, Media and Politics).
• Conduct research on media industries from critical, global, comparative, or transnational perspectives, with emphasis on the Global South.
• Engage with global communities, mentor students, and participate in institutional service and shared governance.
• Collaborate with NU‑Q’s Institute for Advanced Study of the Global South, AI and Media Lab, and Media Majlis Museum.

Required profile

• PhD or recent PhD in Communication, Media Studies, Journalism, or a related field.
• Demonstrated research record or strong research potential in media industries, especially concerning the Global South.
• Linguistic competence and field experience relevant to the research area.
• Commitment to high‑quality teaching, mentoring, and service.

Required skills

• Expertise in media industry analysis, production/distribution studies, policy, regulation, or emerging technologies such as AI.
• Ability to design and teach interdisciplinary courses.
• Strong written and oral communication in English; proficiency in Arabic or another language is a plus.
