Principal Mechanical Engineer

About the role

Akura Medical, a Shifamed portfolio company, is seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to lead the mechanical development of its console and cart‑based electro‑mechanical medical devices. The role will own system architecture, enclosure design, and integration of electronics, fluid and thermal subsystems from concept through production.

Key responsibilities

• Define and own the mechanical architecture for console and cart platforms, including structures, mechanisms, thermal management, serviceability and manufacturability.
• Lead design and development of plastic and composite parts using injection molding and RIM molding, driving DFM/DFS and tooling decisions with suppliers.
• Manage the full mechanical lifecycle: requirements, concept studies, prototyping, detailed design, verification & validation, and transition to production.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to integrate mechanical designs with electronics, firmware, fluid handling and user‑interface elements.
• Conduct tolerance stack analysis, FEA, material selection and root‑cause investigations on critical subsystems.

Required profile

• 15+ years of experience in complex capital equipment or electro‑mechanical product development.
• Hands‑on experience with regulated medical devices under FDA/ISO 13485 or equivalent frameworks.
• Proven track record as a lead or principal engineer for console/cart‑based systems from concept to launch.
• Strong background in injection molding and RIM molding, including part design, material selection and DFM considerations.
