Principal Rotating Engineer – Qatar

About the role

Wood is seeking a Principal Rotating Engineer to lead the design, specification and delivery of rotating equipment for oil and gas projects across on‑shore and offshore sites in Qatar. You will manage multi‑location teams, liaise with clients and suppliers, and ensure project execution meets safety, quality, cost and schedule targets.

Key responsibilities

• Lead project delivery, coordinating with client technical personnel and internal teams in London, India and Qatar.
• Specify pumps, compressors, turbines, drivers, seals and lubrication systems, producing technical specifications and mechanical datasheets.
• Prepare enquiry requisitions, evaluate supplier bids, and supervise supplier design and interface control.
• Review supplier documentation (GA drawings, calculations, fabrication procedures) and integrate it into project designs.
• Provide specialist input to design, risk and constructability reviews, and support inspection, testing, construction and commissioning activities.
• Supervise less‑experienced mechanical engineers and conduct site visits, surveys and technical discussions.

Required profile

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering; chartered membership of a relevant professional body is preferred.
• Minimum 15 years of post‑graduation experience in oil & gas, covering greenfield and brownfield projects on‑shore and offshore.
• Proven experience with process and utility compressors, gas/steam turbines, pumps and other rotating equipment.
• Familiarity with API, ISO and ASME codes and major oil company standards (e.g., Shell DEPs).
• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English and ability to work independently.
