Senior Counsel (Shipping)

About the role

QatarEnergy is looking for a Senior Counsel (Shipping) to provide legal support for its ship acquisitions and marine transportation activities linked to the commercialization of LNG, crude and other liquid petroleum products, petrochemicals, chemicals and fertilizers. The role covers the negotiation of all related agreements and the administration of them, including the management of claims and disputes.

Key responsibilities

• Negotiate agreements on the acquisition and disposal of shipping capacity, including sale and purchase agreements, shipbuilding contracts, time, voyage and bareboat charter agreements, contracts of affreightment and container feeder contracts.
• Handle vessel financing.
• Manage ancillary services, administer the agreements and manage related claims and disputes, including price and charter rate reviews.
• Support three client groups: QatarEnergy LNG Marketing, QatarEnergy Trading and QatarEnergy Marketing and Trading.

Required profile

• 10+ years of experience in private practice or in-house, with a substantial amount in shipping activities.
• J.D./LL.B. (or equivalent) degree from a recognized university.

Required skills

• Strong legal skills, including drafting.
• Experience dealing with regulators and government representatives.
