Ship Master – Captain of Vessel

About the role

The Master holds ultimate authority for the health, safety, and environmental protection of all personnel aboard the vessel. Acting as the senior officer, the Master leads the crew, ensures compliance with company policies, flag state regulations, and oversees safe navigation and vessel operations.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and enforce the company's Safety Management System (SMS) and related policies.
• Maintain compliance with flag state, classification society, and local regulations.
• Plan, organise, and control all vessel activities, delegating duties to the management team as appropriate.
• Oversee maintenance of all onboard equipment, including safety gear, engine systems, cranes, and dynamic positioning (DP) systems.
• Ensure all marine personnel hold valid qualifications and receive proper familiarisation and performance appraisals.
• Manage safety systems such as safety committees, inspections, and permit‑to‑work procedures.
• Conduct safe navigation during transit, berthing, and un‑berthing, and supervise DP operations in line with IMCA guidance.
• Maintain accurate official logbooks and the Ship Security Plan, ensuring ISPS Code compliance.

Required profile

• Proven experience as a vessel Master with full authority over crew and operations.
• Strong knowledge of flag state, classification society, and local maritime regulations.
• Ability to motivate crew, communicate clear orders, and conduct performance appraisals.
• Commitment to safety, environmental protection, and continuous improvement of SMS.
