Staff Software Engineer – Medical Imaging

About the role

Akura Medical is seeking a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer to lead the design and development of advanced medical imaging systems. You will work on cutting‑edge software that transforms CT angiograms into 3D pulmonary vascular models, supporting procedural planning and clot assessment for patients with venous thromboembolism.

Key responsibilities

• Design and integrate scalable medical image processing pipelines compliant with FDA and ISO 13485 standards.
• Develop and implement imaging algorithms, visualization tools, and core system components.
• Collaborate with R&D, clinical, regulatory, and manufacturing teams to align technical deliverables with program goals.
• Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and trade‑off analyses to guide design decisions.
• Mentor junior engineers and share best practices in coding, testing, and documentation.
• Partner with external vendors to support imaging‑related initiatives.
• Define and execute testing, verification, and validation protocols.
• Contribute to technical documentation and regulatory submissions.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science or related field (M.S. preferred).
• 8+ years of experience designing and developing medical imaging systems.
• Strong knowledge of imaging modalities such as X‑ray, MRI, and ultrasound.
• Proven ability to work in multidisciplinary, regulated environments.
