System Control Engineer - Transmission Network Planning

About the role

Madre Integrated Engineering is looking for a System Control Engineer in Doha to provide expert consultation on the strategic planning and development of transmission networks, including extra-high voltage systems and high future demand growth, while ensuring compliance with grid codes, international standards (IEEE, IEC) and best practices.

Key responsibilities

• Identify improvement points in grid codes, procedures and guidelines, and pinpoint transmission system bottlenecks, recommending reinforcement or new infrastructure projects.
• Perform techno-economic evaluations to find the most cost-effective and reliable transmission solutions, and prepare technical reports, presentations and feasibility studies for management and stakeholders.
• Provide guidance on project prioritization and investment decisions through feasibility studies and investment plans aligned with technical, economic and strategic objectives.
• Model the transmission system and run steady-state load flow and dynamic/transient analyses using software such as PSS/E and DigSilent, and conduct transient analysis with PSCAD.
• Carry out generation interconnection impact studies, load forecasting and scenario analyses, and validate and update network models used by the planning team.
• Recommend network reinforcements and upgrades, research renewable energy policies and guidelines, and help integrate study results into long-term network expansion plans.

Required profile

• Preferred: PhD in Engineering; minimum: BSc. in Electrical Engineering or a Master's degree.
• 20+ years of experience in transmission network planning in utilities and consultancy, and 2+ years in transmission-related system studies.
• Leadership experience of 5+ years.

Required skills

• 15+ years of experience with PSS/E, DigSilent and PSCAD.
• Experience in electrical engineering system studies within utilities and consultancy.
