Department Manager – Big‑Box Retail

About the role

The Department Manager leads the day‑to‑day operations of a specific department within a large‑format retail store. This role ensures smooth department performance, drives sales, and meets key performance indicators aligned with overall store goals.

Key responsibilities

• Oversee daily department operations, ensuring compliance with company policies on stock, sales, and customer service.
• Track and report on department KPIs such as sales targets, conversion rates, customer satisfaction, and stock loss prevention.
• Maintain visual merchandising standards and adapt displays for seasonal promotions and product launches.
• Manage inventory levels, conduct regular stock audits, and coordinate replenishment to minimise overstock and shrinkage.
• Ensure security and safety protocols are followed, creating a secure environment for staff and shoppers.
• Collaborate with other department managers and the Store Manager to align departmental activities with store‑wide objectives.
• Handle rostering, scheduling, and address customer inquiries or grievances.
• Mentor and develop the department team through coaching and training sessions.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing a retail department or similar operation.
• Strong understanding of sales drivers, inventory control, and visual merchandising.
• Ability to analyse performance data and implement improvement actions.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills.
• Commitment to delivering high levels of customer satisfaction.
