Development Operations Engineer (DevOps)

About the role

A major oil and gas operator is looking for a Development Operations Engineer through Airswift, a global manpower provider. The role is based on site in Doha, Qatar, on a long-term contract, starting as soon as possible (typically within 1 month notice). The engineer acts as a DevOps subject matter expert, supporting multiple teams in adopting DevOps practices and promoting a DevOps culture.

Key responsibilities

• Design, implement and maintain DevOps processes and tools, and support the DevOps roadmap aligned with company strategy.
• Collaborate with development, operations and QA teams to automate workflows from code commits to deployment and monitoring.
• Administer and support the DevOps platform and implement DevOps best practices and standards.
• Integrate security best practices throughout the DevOps lifecycle, including secure coding.
• Use IaC tools such as Terraform and configuration management tools such as Ansible to automate infrastructure.
• Oversee software composition analysis and software bill of materials to manage third-party dependencies and supply chain security.
• Help set up governance and compliance frameworks, and guide teams in building CI/CD pipelines and deployment strategies.
• Monitor and optimise system performance, reliability and scalability, and stay current with industry trends.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• At least 10 years of experience in a DevOps or similar role, with a proven track record of implementing DevOps in complex IT environments.
• Experience in Agile/Scrum environments and with the SDLC, including Waterfall, Scrum or Kanban.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication and project management skills.

Required skills

• CI/CD pipelines, automation, configuration management and IaC (Terraform, Ansible).
• Cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS and GCP.
• Docker and Kubernetes; SAST, DAST and software composition analysis.
• Scripting in Python, Bash and PowerShell; Git; monitoring and logging tools.
