Group Legal Director

About the role

The Group Legal Director leads all legal, regulatory, governance, compliance and corporate risk matters for a multinational organisation operating in energy, oil & gas, mining, infrastructure and concession projects. Reporting directly to the CEO and Board, the role provides strategic legal advice on high‑value transactions, concessions, M&A, disputes and regulatory issues across multiple jurisdictions.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and execute the Group legal strategy and advise senior leadership on governance matters.
• Lead negotiations and drafting of concession agreements, production sharing contracts, joint operating and venture agreements, EPC contracts, offtake and infrastructure development agreements.
• Ensure contractual and regulatory compliance in all operating jurisdictions.
• Provide legal counsel to the Board and its committees, establishing governance frameworks aligned with international best practices.
• Support mergers, acquisitions, divestments and strategic investments, managing complex cross‑border commercial transactions.
• Oversee compliance programmes covering sanctions, anti‑corruption, competition law and industry regulations.
• Direct litigation, arbitration, mediation and dispute‑resolution activities, managing external counsel and budgets.
• Maintain relationships with ministries, regulators, concession authorities and sovereign partners.
• Lead and develop international legal teams, implementing succession planning and talent development.

Required profile

• LLB and admission to practice law in a recognised jurisdiction; LLM preferred.
• Minimum 20 years of legal experience, with at least 10 years in senior legal leadership.
• Extensive experience in oil & gas, energy, mining, infrastructure or concession businesses.
• Proven track record negotiating PSCs, concession agreements, joint ventures, EPC contracts and international commercial contracts.
• Strong experience in the Middle East and managing legal matters across multiple international jurisdictions.
• Demonstrated ability to advise Boards and senior executives on complex legal and regulatory issues.
