Head, Library Technologies and Archives

About the role

The University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) is looking for a Head of Library Technologies and Archives. The role covers the management of library systems, discovery layers, cataloguing and classification, and the provision of professional support and training for library staff.

Key responsibilities

• Provide professional assistance in library systems management, including software training, advice on best practices and staff training.
• Manage configuration and troubleshooting of Integrated Library System (ILS) modules, discovery layer and related software, and implement batch changes to ILS records for better reporting and user experience.
• Train staff on MARC batch imports and reporting on statistics, inventory, missing items, holds and overdue items.
• Oversee technical services such as cataloguing, classification and bibliographic standards in line with UDST policies.
• Stay current with ILS developments and lead projects such as moving to a new discovery layer, evaluating software, managing data migration and training staff.
• Integrate the discovery layer with the website and e-resources, and maintain the library website, intranet and electronic resources.
• Design statistical analysis tools and set and monitor KPIs for library systems.
• Liaise with IT Operations, Software Development and external vendors to customise ILS and CMS modules, and resolve library IT issues.
• Take part in university committees and contribute to library policies and procedures.
• Support the professional development of direct subordinates, give periodic performance reviews and identify learning opportunities.

Required profile

• Master's degree in Library and/or Information Science from an ALA-accredited or equivalent program.
• Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in library systems or a related field.
• Minimum 1 year of supervisory experience.
• Fluency in written and spoken English; Arabic is preferred.
