Head of Asset Recovery

About the role

The bank is seeking an experienced Head of Asset Recovery to own the end‑to‑end recovery function. You will drive down credit losses, improve outcomes on problem and non‑performing accounts, and ensure the recovery process aligns with the bank’s risk appetite and commercial goals.

Key responsibilities

• Define the bank’s recovery approach, including policies, processes and annual plans.
• Oversee recovery work from early arrears through legal enforcement across retail and corporate books.
• Track overdue balances, recovery rates and losses, building KPI frameworks and early‑warning triggers.
• Advise on optimal routes for significant problem accounts – rescheduling, settlement, write‑off or litigation.
• Appoint and manage external partners such as collection agencies, law firms and valuers.
• Present portfolio trends, forecasts and recommendations to senior leadership and credit committees.
• Ensure full compliance with regulatory, legal, internal policy and audit standards.
• Lead and develop the recovery team, fostering a culture of ownership and delivery.

Required profile

• Degree in Finance, Banking, Economics, Business, Law or a related discipline.
• 10+ years in banking or financial services in collections, remedial, workout or recovery roles, with at least 4 years leading teams.
• Proven track record of resolving large, complex problem and non‑performing exposures.
• In‑depth understanding of restructuring, enforcement, provisioning and NPL management.
• Strong credit judgement, financial analysis capability and confident negotiation skills.
