Head of Credit Risk and Collections

About the role

Wafir, a Qatar-based fintech, is seeking an experienced credit professional to lead its credit risk assessment, limit setting, and collections functions. You will initially strengthen the credit assessment process and then own day‑to‑day credit and collections operations.

Key responsibilities

• Review and enhance the full customer assessment process, including salary verification, affordability analysis, limit tiers and internal scoring model.
• Write the Credit Policy and define risk appetite, then approve customer limits, exceptions and high‑risk cases.
• Supervise the Risk & Onboarding Officer, monitor payments, overdue amounts and credit exposure across active circles.
• Lead the payment lifecycle, handle escalated collections cases and ensure compliance with internal policies and QCB regulations.
• Develop and update SOPs for credit, onboarding and collections, track audit findings and produce monthly credit risk reports for regulatory reporting.

Required profile

• 5–10 years of retail or consumer credit experience at a bank or finance company in Qatar or the GCC.
• Hands‑on experience building or validating credit scoring models and conducting salary‑based affordability and debt‑burden analysis.
• Strong analytical skills, comfortable working with raw data and Excel.
• Professional proficiency in English; Arabic is a plus.
• Hands‑on attitude and ability to thrive in a small, fast‑moving team.
