Lead Technical Officer - Horticulture

About the role

The Lead Technical Officer oversees the orchard and indoor plant maintenance at Hamad International Airport, while also supporting outdoor landscape maintenance. The role covers regular inspections, plant health monitoring, irrigation oversight and coordination with the maintenance contractor.

Key responsibilities

• Inspect the indoor landscape and orchard regularly, report defects, nutrient deficiencies, pests, diseases and toxicity, and recommend remedies using current agrochemical products and technology.
• Audit the orchard and indoor plants so they remain in the best possible condition, and maintain optimal soil and plant relationships for efficient fertilization.
• Carry out experiments and horticultural tests to determine the optimum inputs for healthier plants.
• Monitor the irrigation network and recommend adjustments to keep plants healthy.
• Supervise the contractor's activities and performance, ensuring contractual SLAs are met and work orders are completed to project specifications.
• Communicate with the contractor on resources, manpower, equipment and consumables to optimise efficiency, and report the landscape status to the line manager with a quality assurance process.
• Propose actions for continuous improvement of the business and ensure safety measures are applied by contractors.

Required profile

• High school, vocational or diploma qualification (type depending on the role) with at least 5 years of job-related experience, or a bachelor's degree or equivalent with at least 4 years.
• Essential: landscape maintenance experience and horticultural qualification; preferred: indoor plants maintenance and landscape auditing experience.
