Research Commercialization Manager

About the role

The Research Commercialization Manager will lead the translation of Energy and Environment research outcomes into market‑ready solutions. Working within HBKU R&D Corp., you will drive the full commercialization lifecycle, from portfolio management to partnership development.

Key responsibilities

• Create, manage and monitor the university’s Energy & Environment technology portfolio toward commercial routes.
• Lead HBKU R&D Corp. E&E commercialization activities from initiation to completion.
• Conduct Innovation Readiness Level (IRL) assessments to streamline project management.
• Identify commercialization opportunities and define optimal pathways for intellectual outcomes.
• Increase successful technology transfer agreements through licensing, service contracts, product creation, or spin‑outs.
• Prepare and manage commercialization agreements, ensuring compliance with licensing obligations.
• Support internal strategy documents, policies and procedures related to commercialization.
• Produce real‑time reports and data analyses, and drive continuous improvement of commercialization processes.
• Represent OIIR on committees, build relationships with HBKU members, and develop partnerships with industry, government and research entities.
• Identify external funding opportunities and advise senior leadership on investment prospects.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in law, business, economics or relevant engineering; 8‑10 years of relevant experience, including at least 3 years in a supervisory role.
• Post‑graduate degree is an advantage.
• Proven experience in energy and environment technology commercialization, business development and knowledge transfer.
• Strong understanding of the innovation ecosystem within and beyond academia.
• Excellent knowledge of funding and investment processes for new technologies.
• In‑depth awareness of market dynamics, regulatory requirements and industry trends in the Energy & Environment sector.
