Rotating Machinery Technician

About the role

The Rotating Machinery Technician is responsible for the preventive maintenance, repair, overhaul and troubleshooting of rotating equipment such as steam and gas turbines, compressors and pumps, as well as their auxiliaries. Working on‑site in Mesaieed, the role ensures equipment reliability while complying with QAFCO health, safety, quality and environmental procedures.

Key responsibilities

• Perform routine and non‑routine maintenance tasks on turbines, compressors, pumps and related rotating equipment.
• Carry out condition checks, vibration readings, temperature monitoring and lubrication inspections.
• Execute alignment activities using dial gauges and laser alignment systems.
• Lead a team of contracted personnel during shutdowns and specific tasks.
• Prepare and obtain cold work permits, conduct toolbox meetings and ensure correct tools and safety equipment are available.
• Apply LOTO, confined‑space and hazardous‑area procedures, and supervise safe rigging and lifting operations.
• Document work progress verbally and on work sheets for supervisory review.

Required profile

• Familiarity with the allocated area of work and the processes it supports.
• Ability to work independently under normal supervision while maintaining high housekeeping standards.
• Strong awareness of safety protocols, including lock‑out/tag‑out and permit‑to‑work requirements.
• Good communication skills to report problems and advise supervisors.

Required skills

• Preventive maintenance and troubleshooting of steam turbines, gas turbines, centrifugal and reciprocating compressors, and pumps.
• Use of precision measuring tools: micrometers, vernier calipers, dial indicators, feeler gauges, bore gauges.
• Alignment techniques with dial gauges and laser alignment systems.
• LOTO procedures, confined‑space safety, hazardous material handling.
• Rigging and lifting operations using slings, shackles, chain blocks and hoists.
• Basic vibration analysis and temperature monitoring.
