Senior Charterer

About the role

QatarEnergy is looking for a Senior Charterer in Doha to negotiate and execute shipping contracts in the bulk shipping freight market. The role develops the freight and chartering activity and ensures its continued growth and profitability, working closely with the Assistant Manager, Shipping and Operations.

Key responsibilities

• Negotiate and execute shipping contracts in the bulk shipping freight market.
• Develop the freight and chartering activity and ensure its growth and profitability, in close coordination with the Assistant Manager, Shipping and Operations.
• Manage freight requirements from the Sales and Planning teams.
• Engage with an external client base, shipowners and shipbrokers as required.

Required profile

• Minimum of 8 years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years in chartering with a leading IOC, NOC or reputable shipping company.
• Candidates with a strong record in chartering at Muntajat, QatarEnergy, QPSPP or QG may be considered.
• Bachelor's degree in Economics, Law, Business Administration or equivalent from an internationally recognized university; postgraduate qualification (MSc or MBA) preferred.
• Ability to work in a non-standard environment where the counterparty expects considerable support, while gently introducing standardization and efficiency.

Required skills

• Strong knowledge of the chartering/freight market across different contracts and geographies is beneficial.
• Multi-disciplinary competence in trading, risk control, sales operations, commercial, financial, contract administration, legal, economic analysis and projects.
• Excellent negotiation, communication and interpersonal skills, and top-level written and verbal communication.
• Client and internal stakeholder management, and the ability to make fast risk-based decisions with limited information.
