Senior Database Manager

About the role

The Group is seeking an experienced Senior Database Manager to lead its Database Management department. The successful candidate will deliver secure, resilient, high-performing and well-governed database services across the Group and its subsidiaries, covering strategy, architecture, operations, team management, continuity, security, capacity, lifecycle and vendor management for Oracle, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL and MongoDB.

Key responsibilities

• Own the database operating model, technical standards, procedures, documentation and service quality objectives, and govern enterprise platforms (primarily Oracle and SQL Server, with PostgreSQL and MongoDB)
• Set engineering standards, naming conventions, configuration baselines, upgrade and patching standards, backup policies and monitoring requirements
• Review and approve database designs for new applications, upgrades, integrations and migrations, and monitor emerging technologies such as Oracle cloud and hybrid database services
• Govern Oracle Engineered Systems (Exadata, ODA), including ASM disk groups, storage operations and hardware fault diagnosis
• Ensure availability, integrity, performance and recoverability of critical systems, trading, back-office, data warehouse and subsidiary databases, and govern HA, replication, clustering, standby, switchover, failover and disaster recovery
• Ensure regular backup, restore and point-in-time recovery testing, and manage capacity, growth forecasting and licensing
• Approve monitoring and alerting coverage using Oracle Enterprise Manager, OpManager and Event Log Analyzer, and register every new database, instance or cluster in asset, monitoring, backup, security and continuity inventories
• Govern database security controls, least privilege, privileged access, auditing, encryption, hardening and access reviews, and enforce change management with rollback plans
• Lead incident and problem management, root cause analysis and coordination with development, infrastructure, networks, cybersecurity, application support and business continuity
• Manage vendors, support contracts, licenses and subscriptions, maintain asset inventories and architecture diagrams, define KPIs and support audits
• Own the continuity and operational resilience plan, test switchover, failover and recovery, and remediate single points of failure
• Develop team capabilities through training and mentoring, and use approved AI tools to support monitoring, alert correlation, architecture diagrams and documentation, with all outputs validated by the team
